Lost and Found

I lost my Nan this christmas, and its a very funny feeling when you have to power through and carry on with christmas when it just does not feel quite as Merry. So I  decided to go through some old photos of my grandparents and relations and create a bit of a memorial to some of the most lovely and funniest people I could ever be related too.

Me and my Gramps have a Nap, he used to fall asleep during reading me stories.
My Nanny smith and grandad george with my dad in the background!
my dads side of the family, on a sunday outing.
cool kids, my dad being the one in the black tank top.....

Cooler Mag

One of my favorite magazines to read is Cooler its full of really exciting shoots and amazing photography around the world following surfers and water sports champions, fashion and styling shoots.

The photography is often very simple yet striking, using white backgrounds with exciting graphics, and models that are really girl next door types with an interesting fun look about them, when I read that magazine it makes me want to run away and surf in the sun...

messing around with layers

When I get back in the studios after christmas I really want to spend more time on this layered idea, I think it looks exciting and the colours of the universe images work really well with the portraits, these are just rough experiments but im going to work on trying developing this idea!

Moving Images

Recently on Tumblr, I was shown this blog that I just thought was really unique, it takes short stills from movie images, and turns them into GIF images. I love the way they are done with such subtle movements, often you have to stare at the image to notice the slight movements. I find this really exciting and I really want to try this out! reminds me of the moving paintings in Harry Potter on the staircase.  You get the stillness of a photograph, but with that little something more which sets the scene or narrative. check out the blog for more moving images

Hedi Slimane

I have always loved the work of Hedi Slimane, its so fresh and exciting, capturing fashion photography in a documentary way is something I had not seen before. I love the black and white portraits in his fashion diary lately, going to try booking a studio soon and come up with a few new portraits of my own.
